Noble Energy Wins First U.S. Deep-Water Oil-Drilling Permit
Noble Energy Inc. won the first U.S.
deep-water drilling permit in the Gulf of Mexico since BP Plc’s
oil spill 10 months ago, and regulators said they expect to
approve more applications.
Oil industry executives, lawmakers and officials from Gulf
states had criticized the administration’s drilling delay,
saying thousands of jobs in the region were at stake.

Here is an interesting article about whether we should be drilling for oil in Anwar, Alaska. (BTW, the author is pro drilling)

Re: Noble Energy Wins First U.S. Deep-Water Oil-Drilling Permit
It is good news for the local and state economy that permits are being issued to drill in the gulf again.
The oil spill hurt the local economy but the drilling moratorium had devastating effects on the local economy. Not just for the oil field workers but all the businesses they supported. Many businesses have closed since the moratorium went into effect.
Several oil companies moved their rigs from the gulf to overseas locations so those jobs are lost, if the remaining companies can get can obtain drilling permits many workers will be called back to work.
