Let's Brainstorm! We Need Creative Ideas to Find a Job
Being frustrated and unemployed, I need to brainstorm with many of the members here. Maybe we can help each other.
I spoke to the lady who lives downstairs, I asked her how she found her present job. She said she found a caregiving job by standing in front of a big grocery store handing out flyers. Well, this may be crazy but she's working. Another person found a job physically going to companies and handed out resumes. He found a job.
Is this the way to find a job?

Re: Let's Brainstorm! We Need Creative Ideas to Find a Job
Hi gigichicago,
If you go to a link to one of my earlier posts,
(https://dawu.forumotion.com/t1831-finding-hidden-jobs),
if you've not seen it already, it will provide the backdrop for what I will say next:
One of my best friends who's been out of work since December is trying something interesting. He's chasing a particular "hidden-job" which is not even internally advertised at this point . . . because the position is currently being held by someone!!!
However, he knows through networking that the job-holder is due to retire at the end of August, and then the position will be posted internally for 60 days . . . and then go out to the public-job boards. So, in the meantime, he is attending every party and function in which supervisors from the department of interest attend. He's got someone inside who is letting him know when the functions are and he's been getting an "escort" from his networking-contact - where his contact is introducing him to all of the "players."
The strategy is simplicity itself. His networking contact already has the job description rough-draft, and is tailoring his general resume (which I wrote with him) to be specific to this one position. At the end of August, the supervisors will put out the internal opening, but the "open" position will already be spoken-for, so to speak.
Just as Jim Gavin (the youngest Major General in WWII) once said that "there is no substitute for soldiers to see their general in person sharing the danger with them," so too is there no substitute for "pressing the flesh." So, as an initial lead-in to toss onto the board insofar as the subject of "creative ideas to find a job," most ideas mentioned will probably need to be those which (in some way, shape, or form), bring job seekers into physical contact with prospective hiring-managers . . . and in a venue outside of the workplace . .. be it the golf-course, the YMCA, a party, a charity-event, church, etc.
