Copper tube plant from China coming to Thomasville
THOMASVILLE, Alabama - A Chinese company
has announced its building a copper tube plant in Thomasville, and will
employ more than 300 people.
The $100 million Golden Dragon copper manufacturing plant is expected to employ more than 300 people.
And, with an unemployment rate at more than 16 and a half percent last
month, Thomasville Mayor Sheldon Day said, "We know that this will have a
tremendous impact on whittling that number down, and, not only helping
Thomasville, but also the entire region."
Day said the city is donating 50 acres of land that includes a building designed to attract business.
The company will make copper pipes and tubes for air conditioning and
refrigeration, and Day said workers would earn wages roughly equal to
what paper mill workers have made.
