Glitch slows checks for unemployed
The state unemployment office, which has been experiencing computer problems this week, announced yesterday people who certified their claims Tuesday or Wednesday may see a two-day delay in receiving their payments.
The Division of Unemployment Assistance said its claims database experienced “some residual problems” related to an earlier setback that put the system offline Monday and Tuesday.
“When transactions were reviewed at the end of the day, it was clear that the system was not fully operational,” said Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development spokeswoman Alison Harris.
She added claimants who certified yesterday using the WebCert or TeleCert systems will be contacted if they need to take action to get their payments.
The issue began Monday, when a mainframe problem brought down the 30-year-old system.
System upgrades are scheduled for this summer, officials said. The new system will allow people to file for unemployment benefits online, instead of by telephone, for the first time.
People with questions about their claims can call 617-626-6800.
